This is an amazing spot in centre ville for aperitif or a meal. We ended up doing both and had a great experience both times.

We went for the salades repas which essentially allow you to feel virtuous (you can claim to have eaten a salad) but in reality are about as healthy as the steak frites you decided against having. The salads lyonnaise is full salty lardons and squirts of savoury whipped cream - and it's excellent with the lettuce, potatoes and poached egg that come with. A filling and totally satisfying experience!

Not my favorite restaurant in Montpellier. But also not bad.

I had the duck, which comes with a raspberry sauce and some potatoes. I would have preferred if the meat had been cooked less thoroughly so that it could be more tender. The potatoes were okay though, but they were lukewarm, which was disappointing.

The string beans were delicious, and that's surprising since I barely like vegetables.

Loved the steak! €11.9 for a plat du jour
Didn't like the service too much though, our waiter was too playful...

The absolute best restaurant in Montpellier, hands down.

Le Bouchon specializes in food from Lyon and the entrees could not be better.  Prices are reasonable and un menu is always available if you want the prix fixe option.  The restaurant is cozy, bustling and enjoyable - everything you'd want from a French restaurant.

Salads, entrees, and wine are all inexpensive and delicious.  Order the house red in a carafe, le menu and enjoy your company.

A modestly priced restaurant with plentiful outdoor seating serving regional food in the heart of Montpellier, Le Bouchon Saint Roche is a welcome treat.

We were drawn to it by the sight of the waitress balancing three plates of food and crossing the street to the restaurant (the kitchens are across the street from it). The food looked great.

We were immediately shown to our seats and given menus. Water was given straight away and we were left a short while to peruse the menu. The menu featured Languedoc specialities galore. Languedoc cuisine relies heavily on local produce: olive oil, tomato sauces, herbs (like thyme, rosemary and sorrel) from the wild garrigue landscape of the region and a profusion of fresh produce. If you're expecting the rich calorific sauces of Northern and central France think again. Though we were there in February the plentiful fresh produce was a testament to the regions benign climate.

We chose a plate of local meats, some cured (including gamey boar) and some cooked served with a fresh salad of seasonal leaves with figs and goats cheese. It was liberally drizzled with olive oil and red wine vinegar, giving it a tangy sweetness which worked beautifully with the meat.

For the main course we both had sardines with asparagus and a sorrel salad dresed with mild garlic chives. The bitter / sharp sorrel cut through the earthy asparagus and oily sardine perfectly with the garlic chives producing a delicious bite at the top. We chose a local rose (a half pitcher) as it seemed criminal to opt for anything else, though not a 'grand vin' it was more than up to to job of marrying with the food.

Dessert was a creme Catalan (the bigger cousin to Creme Brulee) - a delicious concoction of eggs, sugar, cream and the bakers art!

All in the meal was prix-fixe at 15 Euros per diner (around £12) including drinks. The price was a delight; the food even more delightful still.
